When to use this service
3.5.1- End-customer / trade show / investor demo
- Brand color matching, uniform product family
- SLS/MJF parts needing smooth surfaces
- Parts that need threaded, repeatable connections
- Functional parts under mechanical or thermal load
- Structural parts replacing metal components
How the process works
3.5.2Smoothing & prep
Removing build marks, surface smoothing, prep for post-processing.
Vapor Smoothing (AMT)
Chemical smoothing on the AMT PostPro machine - smoother, sealed and more durable surfaces for SLS, MJF and FDM parts.
Deep Dyeing
Chemical dye that penetrates ~0.5mm into the material - uniform color even when scratched, no separate paint layer.
Primer & industrial paint
Primer, industrial paint booth, Pantone/RAL matching, matte / gloss / soft-touch / metallic finishes.
Metal insert installation
Heat-Set, Press-Fit and Mold-In - threaded connections that withstand repeated loads, vibration and assembly cycles. Placement planned to load direction, with torque inspection and documentation.
Composite reinforcement (carbon / fiberglass)
Internal, external or localized layup with carbon fiber or fiberglass, epoxy impregnation, cure and bake. 2–3× mechanical strength and high thermal stability - fit for industrial, defense and aerospace environments.
Assembly & inspection
Sub-assembly, visual and dimensional inspection, end-customer packing.

3.5.3Example project
3.5.4End-customer enclosure: paint + inserts + composite
MJF enclosure series: Vapor Smoothing for surface refinement, Deep Dyed in rich black, accent-painted in brand-matched Pantone, 12 heat-set inserts for board and lid mounting - torque tested past 500+ open/close cycles. The aerospace variant got external carbon fiber reinforcement, cutting weight 40% while matching the strength of a CNC-machined aluminum part.
Frequently asked
3.5.5Deep Dyeing vs regular paint?
Deep Dyeing penetrates into the material itself (~0.5mm), so color stays even when scratched. Paint is a surface layer that can chip.
Which parts work with Vapor Smoothing?
Our AMT PostPro machine works with PA12, PA11, TPU, ABS and ASA - smoother, more sealed, more water-resistant surfaces.
Heat-Set vs Mold-In?
Heat-Set is installed after printing via controlled heat - fast and inexpensive. Mold-In is embedded during the print itself - stronger bond, more complex process.
How much does composite reinforcement improve strength?
2–3× vs a pure printed part, depending on reinforcement type, fiber orientation and number of plies. Thermal resistance increases significantly as well.
Can you match brand colors and document the process?
Yes - Pantone and RAL matching, plus full per-batch documentation for inserts and composite reinforcement. Important for defense, medical and aerospace clients.
