Challenge
At Gad Dairies, the aluminum blade that cut their hard cheeses broke every few weeks. Beyond the cost and downtime, the fractures were a safety and hygiene hazard: a risk of aluminum fragments falling into the cheese. A strong, durable and food-contact-safe solution was needed.
Approach
We identified the engineering failure behind the recurring breakage and designed a new blade from Nylon 12 (PA12): a material especially strong and resistant to impact and load, and approved for food contact. The part went through a chemical smoothing process that seals the surface, adds resistance to water and chemicals, and makes it food-safe.
Outcome
A durable, safe blade replacing the brittle aluminum part: significant savings on spare parts, cleaner and safer work, and a root-cause fix of the engineering failure, for a strong result that lasts.
